NEW: Application to 2013/2014 programmes: procedures and deadlines

1. Applying for a Master programme

Entry requirements
Admission to a Master programme is open to graduates who have at least a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or will obtain it by 31 December 2013.

Admission application: deadline and procedures
The applications must be submitted online, through the proper service "admission" available from 3 April  to 6 September 2013 (the deadline for non EU applicants resident abroad is 21 June).

You will be asked to:

1) fill out the online application form
2) upload the following documents:

  • Degree certificate and transcript: graduation certificate(s) issued by the competent University and transcript(s) recording exams taken, grades and credits 
  • Passport - personal data: copy of the page with personal details
  • Letter of motivation
  • Europass curriculum vitae

Unless differently required by the chosen course, documents can be produced in one of the following languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish and German.

The admission fee, amounting to euro 30, will be paid once in Italy, within the enrolment deadline.

VERY IMPORTANT: non-EU citizens resident abroad who do not have an Italian residence permit, must also submit their formal pre-application  to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their country, by the annually established deadline (for the academic year 2013/2014 from 21 March to 21 June 2013).

Evaluation exam
Candidates eligible for admission could be asked to take an interview or a test aimed at verifying their own qualification.
Dates and detailed information about the exam will be available on the faculties and courses websites.

The interview could be held via web, according to the procedures specified by the individual degree programs at their respective websites. In this case dates and times of the interview will be arranged case by case by e-mail or phone.

The results of the evaluation will be communicated to the candidates by e-mail within one month.

VERY IMPORTANT: the evaluation exams will also attest the competence in Italian of non-EU applicants resident abroad: they will not be required to pass any other specific Italian language exam.

How to enrol
Admitted students will enrol by 15 October 2013. Different deadlines could be set for non UE students.
Documents to be submitted:

  • 1st level degree along with the Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco or Diploma Supplement
  • copy of the Secondary School Diploma (in Italian, English, French Spanish or German)
  • passport/identity card
  • codice fiscale (taxpayer’s code)
  • 1 passport-size photo
  • valid residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) for non-EU citizens
  • admission fee receipt (euro 30)
  • enrolment fee receipt (euro 691)

Do not forget to make a copy of every document you submit.

How to pay the enrolment fee
The enrolment fee must be paid by the enrolment date, at any BancaIntesa branch using the special bank form or during the online procedure with credit card (Visa or Mastercard)

2. Applying for a Master programme with entrance examination

Entry requirements
Admission to a Master programme is open to graduates who have at least a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or will obtain it by 31st  December 2013.

Admission application: deadline and procedures
European
 and non European citizens residing in Italy must apply online, through the proper service that will be available on this website from 15 July 2013.
N
on-EU citizens residing abroad who do not have an Italian residence permit, must submit their formal pre-application   to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their country from 21 March to 21 June. (they do not have to take the entrance examination to be admitted to the course Public and corporate communication. For more details about the course please read here  )

Competitive examination
Candidates eligible for admission must pass a competitive examination: the announcements, the dates (Italian text) and  the results (Italian text – select “Servizi di ammissione”), will be available online.

Non-EU citizens residing abroad are admitted to limited-number courses with special short lists. The maximum number of places available is established on an annual basis by the faculties and is published on the website of the MIUR (Italian text) – the Ministry of University and Research.

3. Applying for a 1st level vocational master

The application form  must be handed in to the Ufficio Dottorati di ricerca e Master universitari (Doctorates and vocational Master programmes Office) - via Festa del Perdono 7 - 20122 Milano - by the deadline specified in the competitive examination announcement (Italian text).

Non-EU citizens resident abroad must submit their application form and the documents for the assessment of their qualifications, translated and accompanied by the Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco (Certificate of Equivalence of Qualification), to the Embassy responsible for issuing their visa, as indicated in the Pre-Application section (non-EU).

Documents to be submitted with the application

  • An original bachelor degree certificate, translated into Italian and authenticated by the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the country in which it was awarded, and accompanied by a Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco (Certificate of Equivalence of Qualification) from the same Italian Embassy.
  • a certificate issued by the foreign university showing the examinations passed
  • a receipt for the payment of administration fees
  • a copy of a valid permesso di soggiorno (residence permit) for non-EU citizens residing in Italy

How to pay the administration fees

Candidates must make a payment of 50 Euros (to post office current account no. 453274, registered to the Università degli studi di Milano, via Festa del Perdono 7 - 20122 Milano), specifying the following reason for payment: “Contributo spese per l’ammissione al Master in…” (specify the chosen master’s degree course,  or by bank transfer to Banca Intesa San Paolo, current account   4639/71  ABI 03069  CAB 09400  cod. CIN G

How to enrol

Admitted students must enrol within 5 days of the publication of the short list, completing and signing the special form that is to be downloaded from Servizi SIFA online  (Italian text) (select Servizi di immatricolazione e iscrizione) and handing it in (or sending it) to the Ufficio Dottorati di ricerca e Master universitari (Doctorates and vocational Master programmes Office) - via Festa del Perdono 7 - 20122 Milano (tel. +39 02.503.12093;  fax +39 02.503.12300; e-mail: master@unimi.it).

The enrolment fees, terms of payment and deadlines are shown in the individual competitive examination announcements.

Documents to be submitted with the enrolment application

The application should be submitted along with the following:

  • passport/identity card
  • codice fiscale (taxpayer’s code)
  • 1 passport photo
  • receipt for payment
  • a bachelor degree certificate, translated into Italian by an official translator, authenticated by the authorities of the country in which it was issued and accompanied by a Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco (Certificate of Equivalence of Qualification) from the Italian Embassy of the same country.
  • valid permesso di soggiorno (residence permit) for non-EU citizens

4. Withdrawal

Those who wish to withdraw from enrolment for personal reasons can do so at any time, addressing the  withdrawal notice to the University Rector.

If the withdrawal is made before the start of the course, you will have the right to a refund of enrolment and course fees.  However, 10% of the amount paid will be withheld to cover administration costs.

To obtain a refund, you must complete the special form  and attach the original payment receipt.
