Test features

  • English Language test (A2-C2 level) is an adaptive test (the level of difficulty changes according to the answers given). It lasts 60 minutes and it focuses on listening, grammar and reading comprehension.
  • French Language test (B1 and B2 level of CEFR) is structured with questions about grammar, lexicon and language communicative functions, reading and listening. Grammar exercises focus on prepositions, adjectives, pronouns and verb conjugation (indicative, subjunctive, conditional, imperative, participle and gerund). Listening concerns the dictation of a test.
  • Spanish Language test (B1 level) concerns 25 questions about grammar, lexicon and language communicative functions. Grammar questions focus on prepositions, verb conjugation (all modes of indicative and imperative) and the transcription of numbers in letters.
  • Advanced Spanish Language test (B2 level) concerns 20 questions about grammar, lexicon and language communicative functions. Grammar questions mainly cover prepositions, prepositional phrases and verb conjugation (indicative, subjunctive, imperative).
  • German Language test (A2, B1, B2, C1 level) is the OnSET-Deutsch, which is divided in eight fill-in tests (cloze test) with a progressive level of difficulty. Information and a mock test (Beispieltest) are available on this page. We invite students not to register autonomously on Teilnehmer-Portal: the registration will be done on the day of the exam.

Language knowledge assessment (3 credits) - Humanities

The Language Centre of the University of Milan (Servizio Linguistico dell’Ateneo di Milano – SLAM) organizes for the a.y. 2017-2018 English, French, German and Spanish language courses for students of the following bachelor programmes:

- History;

- Human Science of Environment, Landscape and Territory (no English courses offered for this bachelor programme);

- Humanities;

- Liberal Studies in Communication (no English courses offered for this bachelor programme);

- Philosophy;

- Science of Cultural Property.

Students who already have a language certificate acknowledged by the University are invited to send it to  slam@unimi.it for validation. Once the certificate is validated, students will be awarded the corresponding credits.

Students who don’t have a language certificate must sit a computer-based placement test.

The scores of the placement test ware performed automatically with the indication of the corresponding CEFR level. The requested levels are the following:

  • French: B1
  • Spanish: B1
  • German: A2

Students who achieve a score corresponding to the required level will be awarded the corresponding 3 credits and will receive a CEFR level certificate.

Students who achieve a lower level score will have to attend a language course during the second semester of the a.y. 2017-2018.

To attend the placement test, students must subscribe to it on the Sifa online services: Educational Services - Exam and workshop registration.

Students with disabilities

In order to obtain the compensatory tools during SLAM tests, students with disabilities or learning difficulties (DSA) have to provide a valid certification and to send a copy at slam@unimi.it within 10 days before the exam date.

The Language Centre of the University of Milan (Servizio Linguistico dell'Ateneo di Milano - SLAM) organizes for the a.y. 2017-2018 courses of French, German, Spanish and American English for first- and second-year students of the following bachelor programmes:

- Political Science (SPO);

- Social sciences for globalisation (GLO).

Students who already have a language certificate acknowledged by the University are invited to send it to slam@unimi.it for validation. Once the certificate is validated, students are awarded the corresponding credits.

Students who don’t have a language certificate will have to sit a computer-based placement test.

The scores of the placement test are performed automatically with the indication of the corresponding CEFR level. The requested levels are the following:

  • French: B1
  • Spanish: B1
  • German: A2
  • American English (advanced): C1

Students who achieve a score corresponding to the required level will be awarded the corresponding 6 ECTS credits and will receive a CEFR level certificate.

Students who achieve a lower level score will have to attend a language course.

French, Spanish, German ad American English courses are held by native language speakers or equivalent level and consist in 40 hours of frontal lessons. The courses are held in the second and third trimester of the a.y. 2016/2017. In order to register in a course, students must fill in this online form.

A computer-based final test will be held at the end of the course.

If the final test is passed, students are awarded the 6 ECTS credits and receive a CEFR level certificate.

The Language Center of the University of Milan (Servizio Linguistico dell’Ateneo di Milano – SLAM) manages the assessment of the advanced knowledge of English, French, German and Spanish languages for students of all degree programmes in the Political, Economic and Social Sciences area.

Students who already have a language certificate acknowledged by the University are invited to send it to slam@unimi.it for validation. Once the certificate is validated, students are awarded the corresponding 3 credits.

Those who do not have a language certioficate must sit a computer-based placement test.

Tests are held during the second term of the academic year 2017-2018. The scores are provided automatically with the indication of the corresponding CEFR level. The requested levels are the following:

  • English: C1
  • French: B2
  • German: B1
  • Spanish: B2

Students who achieve a score corresponding to the required level are awarded 3 credits, in accordance with the “Manifesto degli Studi” of their degree programme, and receive a CEFR level certificate.

In order to take the placement test, students must register via Sifa online services: Educational Services - Exam and workshop registration.
