Italian Language and Culture for Foreigners (L10 - Humanities)

The Bachelor's degree programme in Italian Language and Culture for Foreigners is a three-year programme delivered online by the ICON Consortium on behalf of its member universities.



The Bachelor's degree programme in Italian Language and Culture for Foreigners is for foreign and Italian students residing abroad only. It is delivered entirely online by the ICON Consortium on behalf of its member universities, including the University of Milan. Its graduates will:

  • Combine baseline knowledge of Italian language and culture with specific skills in the fields of linguistics and foreign language teaching. Career opportunities include teaching Italian as L2;
  • Know Italian culture, particularly its literature, art, music, theatre and cinema. Career opportunities include teaching Italian language and culture abroad, working in publishing, entertainment, museums and cultural tourism in Italy;
  • Understand Italian culture as reflected in Italian society, politics and economics. Career opportunities include institutional and business relations with Italy, as well as publishing.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Italian Language and Culture for Foreigners provides a skillset that can be applied to a wide range of professional sectors, depending on the chosen curriculum:

  • Arts, music, entertainment
  • Linguistics and foreign language teaching
  • Literature
  • History and culture

Career opportunities include teaching Italian abroad, tourism to and from Italy, cultural publishing in Italian abroad, as well as institutional, cultural and business relations between Italy and other countries.

Enrolment

Admission to the programme is subject to the following requirements:

  • Holding a high-school diploma that allows for enrolment in an Italian university, obtained at the end of at least 12 years of schooling
  • Being proficient in Italian and familiar with e-learning tools, in order to take part in educational activities.

Admission assessment

Italian language proficiency upon admission will be assessed through an online test.

Applicants must score at least 60/100 in the language test.

Foreign students may submit a B2-level Italian language certificate under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students who do not hold this certificate will be required to follow a dedicated language course.

Foreign students who have obtained their high-school diploma in Italy and native speakers need not certify Italian language proficiency.
