Genomics and Proteomics are the most challenging new technologies in the last years in the molecular biology and biochemistry fields.
Genomics is microarray technology using oligonucleotide spotted slides as a matrix for thousands of probe related to specific genes for the detection of thousands of gene expression/structure in one experiment. Applied to veterinary and agro-food fields can be used for a new analysis more sensible and complete.
Proteomics uses the same approach, but with different technologies as 2D-gels and Mass Spectroscopy to identify markers from comparative analysis (the same approach of microarrays): these markers can be used for routine analysis.
MILK-ARRAY: microarray-based prototype of a diagnostic/prognostic analysis tool for bovine mammary gland related to mastitis pathology (more in general to inflammation based pathologies) and milk production
MEAT-ARRAY: under study, but already designed microarray for the detection of animal health status/breeding conditions related to meat quality
Sparus Aurata SNPs: for paternity determination in aquaculture by fast molecular biology technology, Q-PCR
PROTEOMICS: it’s working on the proteomics profiling of different tissues of different animal species under different conditions (as pathologies viral and not, feeding and environmental pollutants expositions) to detect protein markers that distinguish them from the health or normal counterparts
