Course syllabus
Characteristics of living organisms. Autotrophy and heterotrophy. The water and the living. Organic molecules of biological interest: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleotides and nucleic acids.
General characteristics of the cell. Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. The components of the eukaryotic cell. Typical structures of the plant cell (cell wall, plastids, vacuole). Mitosis and meiosis.
Structural organization of plants. Thallus and corm. Meristematic and adult tissues. Vegetative organs of spermatophytes: roots, stem and leaves. Reproductive organs.
Systematic Botany. General classification of plants and nomenclature principles. Metagenetic cycles. Vegetative propagation and sexual reproduction. Spermatophytes: Gymnosperm and Angiosperm. Systematics of the main families of ornamental and landscape interest.
