Learning objectives
The course applies both theoretical and practical approaches to the understanding of the main biological mechanisms driving embryo development. Tissue spatial organization is examined at the microscopic as well as macroscopic level. Beside the course will illustrate the most advanced veterinary biotechnological methods currently in use. Particular emphasis will be given to methods for stem cell derivation and to the main techniques used in cell therapy and translational medicine.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student acquires:
- Knowledge and understanding of the various anatomical districts of the body, their function and interactions/regulations as well as the process regulating their differentiation.
- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding in critically read the textbooks and use an improved communication using scientific terminology.
- Practical skills in the preparation, staining and interpretation of histological sections

Teaching methods
Lectures and practical classes consisting in:
a. the use of individual microscope for the examination of istological samples;
b. the preparation of an histological sample from collection to the staining;
c. dissection of a rat and a mouse

Assessement methods and criteria
Written test of 40 multiple-choice questions (5 answers) with the possibility of choosing only one or more correct answers.
The final mark is expressed in thirtieths.
Exam are in number of 8 in the Academic year and take place in the months of January, February, April, June, July, September, October and December. There are no additional calls for out-of-course. To take the exam, it is essential to register for the exam through the ONLINE SIFA service of the University and must have attended not less than 75% of the hours both theoretical and practices.
