Learning objectives
The course is aimed at providing students with knowledge about:
- the aging process;
- the consequences of age-related diseases on healthcare services;
- the need for organizing social and healthcare services based on the concepts of functioning and homeostatic reserve;
- the biological functions and action mechanism of hormones, with particular attention to their effects on the musculoskeletal system and to the role of physical activity in hormonal secretion;
- the major endocrine and metabolic pathologies;
- the identification of the most appropriate rehabilitation process after an acute event;
- the organisational models of services and activities involving the speech and language therapist and related disabilities;
- the role of physical exercise and lifestyle improvement as tools for promoting well-being and for the prevention and therapy of the major cardio-metabolic and oncological pathologies;
- the clinical pathology techniques most frequently used for diagnostic purposes;
- the rationale as well as the biological and pathophysiological mechanisms that underlie the use of these procedures;
- the historical evolution of health profession education and training;
- the structure of health profession degrees and curricula, including their regulatory provisions;
- the definition of university and academic positions and the identification of their roles and functions;
- the quality system in universities;
- the competences characterizing the professional profiles included in the Rehabilitation Class, as well as their responsibilities
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- describe the technical, operational and management features of each rehabilitation profession
- use this knowledge for the organization and management of health services provided by rehabilitation health professionals.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of learning outcomes is performed through a written test, taking place during specific exam sessions, as per the Rules. The test consists of multiple choice and open-ended questions.
All the modules included in the teaching contribute equally to determining the final mark, expressed on a scale of 30.
No intermediate or early exam sessions are planned.
Teaching materials or notes are not allowed for consultation during testing
The results are published on the ARIEL website of the course of study.
The Teacher in charge of the teaching provides the final verbalization according to the UNIMI model.

- Principles on radiation, atom and radioactive sources, on the use of radiation and other forms of energy (radio waves, magnetic fields) in Medicine
- Introduction to imaging techniques: nuclear medicine, radiology, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, MRI and major diagnostic examinations using nuclear medicine and radiology techniques
- Diagnostic equipment and radiation detection modes (planar and tomographic imaging, dynamic and static)
- Radiopharmaceuticals and contrast media
- Principles and purposes of radiotherapy treatments
- Target definition in radiotherapy, conformational 3D radiotherapy, modulated intensity radiotherapy, brachytherapy, intra-operative radiotherapy and adhestation
- Positioning of the patient undergoing radiotherapy
- Molecular mechanisms of radiotherapy damage and dose fractionation
- Radiotherapy in association with other antineoplastic therapies
