The course aims at providing students with adequate knowledge about: a) the different approaches in crop protection, focusing on the chemical control and related environmental issues; b) basic elements of integrated crop protection from diseases.

Presentation of the course and educational aims. History of Phytoiatry. Plant disease management. Phytosanitary regulations. Regulations on the registration, labelling, commercialization and usage of plant protection products. Functional and chemical classification of agrochemicals, their formulation and mode of action. Translocation of agrochemicals in plant tissues and organs. Sustainable use of agrochemicals. Resistance to agrochemicals: genetic and biochemical bases, prevention. Agrochemical residues in food, superficial water and groundwater. Visit to agrochemical company.
