Learning objectives
The course will provide knowledge on the toxicology of domestic animals through a description of general toxicology and the different classes of xenobiotics responsible for toxicity in different animal species. Moreover, the student will learn the main national and European legislation governing livestock production, food safety and environmental protection, the anti-cruelty and companion animals protection laws, as well as notions on the legal order and fundamentals of law. The objective of the course is to enable the students to acquire knowledge and awareness about the responsibilities of the operators in the fields of interest.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will be able to assess the toxicity of xenobiotics based on their toxicokinetic characteristics and mechanisms of action, recognizing the difference between acute, sub chronic and chronic toxicity, the implications for animal health and will also have to demonstrate the knoledge of particular toxicities. These notions will then be applied to the study of toxic substances to which domestic and farm animals are more frequentlyexposed . In terms of legislation, in addition, after completing the course, the student should know the fundamentals of law and the main national and international regulations that are of interest to a graduate in ABA. Moreover, the student should be able to know how to research, read and apply such regulations; the student is encouraged to research and read about the relevant elements of the case-law relating to the fields of interest, to become familiar with the interpretation of existing rules and the solution of practical cases of litigation arising from the application of the rules or from the disapplication of any provision.
