Learning objectives
Il corso si propone di: affrontare il tema del ruolo delle variazioni climatiche nel modellamento del paesaggio; analizzare il concetto di integrazione tra l'analisi sistemica delle forme della Terra e l'analisi storica; fornire le capacità di individuare gli elementi morfologici del paesaggio testimoni dei cambiamenti climatici; fornire abilità per utilizzo di tecniche di laboratorio per lo studio del territorio; affrontare anche il tema della divulgazione dei concetti relativi al cambiamento climatico ed alle risposte del paesaggio.

Syllabus
The course deals with: climatic variations role in modeling the landscape, the concept of integrating systematic analysis of the Earth landforms and historical analysis, ability in individuating morphological elements of the landscape that witness the climatic changes, ability in using laboratory techniques for studying territory, the topic of divulgation of concepts relative to the climatic change and landscape responses.

The concept of climatic geomorphology. Concept of structure, processes and time in geomorphology. Geomorphology and climatic and environmental changes
Introduction to the relation between climatic conditions and relief modeling processes. Zonal and A-zonal processes, extra-zonal processes, poli-zonal processes. Morphoclimatic systems and regions. Relation between climate, meteoric weathering, mass and soil degradation, soil erosion: relation between climatic parameters and erosion rates. Morphologies caused by run-off. Climatic variations and desertification.
The current big morphoclimatic zones. Biostasy and rhexistasy. Morphodynamic equilibrium. Climatic and eustatic terraces.

Glacial landscape: glacial processes and landforms of glacial, fluvioglacial, glaciolacustrin and glaciomarin origin..
Periglacial environment: processes due to frost and permafrost. Periglacial landforms at Alpine and high latitudes.
Relief morphologies and morphogenetic processes in humid and semi-humid regions. The fluvial landscape.
Relief morphologies and morphogenetic processes dominating the Mediterranean regions and temperate humid regions.
Semiarid, arid and desert regions landscapes: weathering processes, morphogenetic processes and deriving landforms. Desert surface, water action in the arid regions; The aeolian action: corrosion, deflation; aeolian erosion and deposit landforms: yardangs,dunes, pediment and inselberg.
