1) General aspects of Mineralogy.
Elements of thermodynamics. p-T stability of a phase. Crystals and glasses. Isomorphism, Polymorphism.
2) Point symmetry.
Point groups. Relationships between point symmetry and physical properties. Symmetry classes. Examples.
3) Notions of Systematic Mineralogy.
The main mineral groups. Their role in natural and industrial environments.
4) Notions about some techniques used to study minerals.
Diffraction. X-ray and electrons. Single crystal and powder sample.
5) Notions of optical Mineralogy.
Propagation of light in a crystal, and the related phenomena. The optic microscope: principles and use.

The rock forming minerals. Observation of main features in mineral and rock samples. The main features of crystals. Chemical and physical features of minerals. Introduction on analytical methods in mineralogy. Systematic mineralogy. Ore and industrial minerals
