Lessons: 48 hours
Syllabus
After explaining the concept of Fossil-Lagerstaette and its importance in Paleontology, we will review the main Italian fossil sites in all their aspects (paleoenvironmental, taphonomic, Systematic, paleobiological). The purpose is to trace the main stages of biological and environmental evolution based on the best fossil record found in Italy, from the Paleozoic of Carnia and Sardinia, through the Triassic sites of Lombardy and the Dolomites, the Cretaceous of Carso and southern Italy, to the Eocene of Bolca and the Quaternary of Isernia, the Valdarno and some caves in the Alps. The potential for the touristic development of the area and the necessary support structures will also be evaluated. A two-day visit to some of the described fossil sites is also planned.
