Learning objectives (Pedagogy) (1CFU=10h)
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
· Define "education" and its meaning within the caring relationship between the dietitian and his/her patient
· Describe diverse educational models, their relationship with different models of medicine, and the impact that the formers have on patients' education
· Explain the characteristics of the educative communication within the nutritional clinical encounter.
· Describe the main communication skills that characterize a patient centered approach
· Consider the contribution of health psychology, psychoanalysis and neurosciences in the comprehension of eating behaviors and in motivating patients to change
· Explain the meaning of "educational diagnosis" and the aspects that the dietitian have to consider when formulating it.
· Discuss the meaning of "change" in the educational processes, referring to the Prochaska-Di Clemente Model.
· Point out the most appropriate strategies to sustain the dietitian's clinical activity aimed at promoting positive eating behaviors and patient's wellbeing.
· Identify effective strategies to motivate patients to change their eating behaviors, highlighting the importance of a counseling approach
· Discuss specific aspects that must be taken into consideration when educating children and adolescents.

Methods
The didactic approach of the course is aimed at developing pedagogical competence through interactive seminars. According to the educational model based on experiential learning and reflective practice, some individual/group exercises, simulations and role playing, focused on the clinical work of the dietitian, will be proposed to students.

Assessment
The exam consist of a written test, containing multiple choice questions, which could refer to conversational interactions between a patient and a dietitian, as those reported in the textbook.
