The course aims to provide students with the cultural tools to learn about: 1. the principles of the of hospital hygiene and prevention of healthcare related infections; 2. The most important laws of the health systems, to understand the elements of the national and regional levels of the health services; 3. The organization of the general practitioner care outside hospitals; 4. The risk management and patient safety rules and the continuous quality improvement; 5. The first elements of health economics with particular attention on cost/benefits ratio of diagnostic therapeutic and preventive procedures and the ways to apply them on medical decisions. 6. the concept of global health in order to facilitate the learning of the great phenomena that affect health and access to prevention and treatment at a global level.
At the end of the course the student must: 1. know the healthcare related infections and the ways to reduce them; 2. Know the health organization at national and regional level; 3. know the organization of the general practice; 4. Know the first concepts about risk management and patient safety; 5. Know the concepts of health economics and their application to medical decisions. 6. Understand the concept and the essentials of global health.
