Learning objectives
The course aims to introduce the main features of the Hindi language: devanāgarī alphabet, its reading and writing, principles of phonetics, the main grammatical and syntactical structures of the Hindi language. The course will give the students the instruments to be able to understand and produce short texts and basic conversations in Hindi. An essential vocabulary related to everyday life will be mastered by the students who will be able to describe experiences and events, to express desires, likes and dislikes. They will also be able to write simple and congruent texts on known and selected topics.
Expected learning outcomes
Students are first of all expected to be able to read and write in devanāgarī, master the main structures of Hindi grammar and syntax and use and understand a range of basic vocabulary. Besides a good skill in writing and reading devanāgarī script, the mastery of the main grammar and syntactical structures and the acquisition of an essential vocabulary, the students are expected to be able to support elementary conversations. The learning tools that will be utilized will foster the development of the ability to independently achieve new knowledge and skills.
