Course syllabus
Lecture
Molecular markers and their properties and experimental designs (2 hours).
Technologies and tools in relation to experimental designs and their application in parentage control, genetic tests and genomic selection (2 hours).
Principles of Bioinformatics. On-line data banks for markers and genes. Browsing of online data bank, extraction of information and their usage (2 hours)

Lab work
Microsatellites analysis: separation on sequencer, profile analysis using dedicated software and interpretation of the results. Sequence analysis: separation on sequencer, traces analysis using dedicated software and interpretation of the results.
SNPs analysis: detection and data analysis by specific software.
Access to on-line databases and data analysis by specific software.

The course concerns the bases of oxidative stress cell exposure and their relationship to animal health.
Main topics:
Occurrence of radical species in cells and their relationship to animal health status.
Causes and occurrence of oxidative stress damage.
Evaluation of cell antioxidant capacity and repairing mechanisms.
Biomarkers for the screening and monitoring of oxidative status.
