Lectures:
1) Honey bee systematics, species and breeds
2) Morphology and anatomy of the honey bee. Breeds of honey bee
3) The castes: queen bee, worker bee and drone.
4) Sex determination in honey bee: haploidia and sexual chromosomes
5) The social physiology and genetics of behavior of the honey bee colonies
6) The frame hives. The beekeeping equipment. Location and arrangement of a apiary.
7) Beekeeping techniques:
- Hive inspection and the evaluation of colonies
- The visits in autumn and winter
- The swarming, supersedure,
- Harvesting honey
- Queen rearing
8) Characteristics and production techniques of bee products
9) Parasites and diseases of bees
10) Legislation

Practical activities:
Hive inspection in the apiary of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lodi
Visit to a harvesting laboratory
