Introduction to developmental biology and genetics: from egg to embryo.
Use of animal models to study cellular e molecular mechanisms involved in the embryonic development: C. elegans, D. melanogaster, Zebrafish, Xenopous, birds, mammals.
Functional analysis of genes involved in embryonic development. Mutagenesis and mutants screening.
Body plan and axes specification. Homeobox and homeodomain structure and function. Maternal effect genes, positional information and embryonic induction in vertebrate embryos: Nieuwkoop center, Speeman organizer, shield and Hensen's node. Mesoderm induction and mesoderm derivatives. Morphogenesis of the Central Nervous System and HOX genes.
Use of model system to study genes involved in human diseases.
