Learning objectives
The course aims at introducing basic concepts related to behavior and structure of digital circuits, starting from digital logic fundamentals up to synthesis methodologies of logic networks.
Lab activities use the Logisim software for describing and simulating combinational and sequential networks.
The course consists in 36 lecture hours (4,5cfu) and 24 lab hours (1,5cfu).
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of basic elements related to design of logical networks. Ability of designing the structure and simulating the behavior of a logical network.

LOGIC NETWORKS
· Functional principles of electronic digital systems. Digital coding of information. Switching algebra and its main theorems. Logic behavior and electronic structure of logic gates.
· Combinational networks analysis and synthesis. Combinational networks analysis: truth tables. Logic expressions. Combinational networks synthesis. Combinational networks optimal synthesis.
· Sequential networks analysis and synthesis. Bistables and the concept of state. Sequential networks analysis. Sequential networks taxonomy. Sequential networks synthesis. Sequential networks optimal synthesis.
· Main integrated circuits. Taxonomy of integrated circuits families. Combinational and sequential integrated circuits. Programmable integrated circuits (ROM, PROM, EPROM, PLA, PAL, FPGA).
