Additive relationship, inbreeding and tabular method (2 hours)
Quantitative traits: the infinitesimal model (1 hour)
Genetic parameters: heritability and repeatability of a trait; correlation among traits (1 hour)
Farmer and breeding system in Italy. Statistic on Italian milk breeds under selection (2 hours)
Definition of traits under selection: selection criteria, selection objective (2 hours)
Selection schemes in animal production (cattle, sheep and goats, swine, poultry, fish) (2 hours)
EBV and its components, the animal model (2 hours)
One locus model as a basis for genomic selection (2 hours)
Principle of genomic selection and its integration in the selection schemes in livestock with particular emphasis in dairy cattle (4 hours)
Expected genetic progress (accuracy of selection, selection intensity, generation interval) 4 hours
