Learning objectives
At the end of the course, the students will be able to
- Analyse specialized German texts (first step in the translation process) considering internal and external factors. Texts (C1- or C2-level) belong to following areas: economics, law, tourism, politics and architecture. In particular:
Business economics and management;
International law;
Commercial law;
Tourism law;
Cultural tourism;
Sustainable tourism;
Green architecture.
- Recognise the terminology in a specialized text;
- Choose the correct translation for a word in bilingual dictionaries;
- Verify the mean of a term in monolingual dictionaries and in other specialized texts available on the web;
- Handle translation problems (e. g. Realia) and choose the best translation strategy;
- Produce a draft translation adopting the principle of information correctness (second step of translation process);
- Review the draft translation (global meaning, grammar, cohesion etc.);
- Analyse texts belonging to audiovisual translation.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Analyse the contents of the texts to be translated and activate previous knowledge acquired in lectures attended such as economics, law and linguistics;
2. Deal with specialized topics in written German texts;
3. Translate the specialized concepts, which characterize the German texts, in adequate Italian terms;
4. Find the cultural differences between German and Italian in various specialized fields and use adequate translation strategies;
5. Produce a translation in Italian, which has to follow adequate grammatical, lexical, textual and stylistic criterion and which is in line with the translation related task.
6. Analyse texts belonging to audiovisual translation.
