Learning objectives

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The course shows the techniques and methods to decipher the structural and tectonic memory occurring in polyphase sectors of collisional belts in various regional settings. The course consists of practical laboratory classes (2 CFU; CFU = University Course Credits) and geologic excursions with field school (4 CFU) across structural sections and levels (superstructure, infrastructure) of collisional belts (localities: Alps, Apennines, Sardinia, Elba Island, European Variscan chain) characterised by overprinting of extensional, transcurrent, and convergent tectonic signatures. The course mainly deals with: a) structural relationships of crystalline basement and sedimentary covers; b) polyphase tectonic histories; c) structuration of the implication of continental and oceanic lithosphere in orogenic high strain zones.
