The course is intended to give an overview of the basic concept of analytical chemistry and of the most important analytical techniques for the Earth Sciences.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will learn how correctly manage analytical data and how choose the correct analytical technique for the different geological problems to solve.

5 Obtaining and Preparing Samples for Analysis
6 Spectroscopic Methods of Analysis (FT-IR, Raman, AAS, AES)
7 X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF)
8 Electron Microprobe Analyser (EMPA)
9 Chromatographic methods (GC, IC)
10 Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS, TIMS, SIMS, IRMS)


The laboratory activity is intended to practice the statistical treatment of analytical data and to introduce students to the practical use of the instruments presented in the course.
