Learning objectives
The educational objectives of the course are, first, about the characteristics and tools of analysis of agribusines and, second, knowledge of methods and tools of economic analysis of agricultural farms.The main objective of the course is to provide students with a conceptual framework through which to analyze the agricultural policies of the European Union. In particular, the course aims to analyze the common agricultural policy (CAP) and its main instruments of intervention in a critical perspective. The first part introduces some general principles for the study of agricultural policy, analyzing the particular features of the sector and its role in economic development. Some basic principles for the study of the economic policy will be also addressed. The third part, after dealing with the study of the institutional structure of the European Union, addresses the study of the CAP analyzing both its historical evolution and the recent reforms.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of the main sources of economic statistics and agricultural usage. Understanding the characteristics of the agribusiness, mastery of tools of analysis and evaluation of agricultural production more profitable.Understanding of economic policy and its role in agriculture; specificity of agriculture and jutification of agricultural policies; economic growth models; instruments of agricultural policy; European Union and its institutions; the common agricultural policy and its reform process; the role of rural development policies.

Characteristics of agriculture and agribusiness. The role of
agriculture in the economy and society, agriculture in the
economy, structural and economic characteristics of
agriculture, agribusiness, food supply chains, the public
and private sector services in agriculture, marketing and
prices of food products. Agricultural Economics. Definition
of farms, structure and types of farms, the organization of
business and enterprise systems in agriculture, the
economic balance of the farm, the economic analysis of
farm management, evaluation summary of the choices of
the entrepreneur, appraisal choices, choices about the
investments, methods of evaluation of the effects of
agricultural practices on the environment.
