Integrated design and re-use of rural buildings

A.Y. 2017/2018
Overall hours
Learning objectives
This course offers an overview on siting and designing rural buildings, as well as on conversion and re-use ofhistoric farm buildings for alternative uses.
Content knowledge deals with relevant tasks closely related to how students will use it outside the learning environment. It provides criteria for analysing rural building and determining what values will be considered in the design process. These topics are discussed to broaden the graduate¿s competencies in a range of possible applications of farm building design.
The 6 cfu are organised in lectures and field work in order to understand how to operate in existing buildings and enhance the farmstead¿s attractiveness. It is intended that the learning and training tools will be used as a material consideration in determining application for new and protected building consent.
Expected learning outcomes
The course will cover the basic principles of the project design, including principles of structural design processes. Special attention will be dedicated to managing the reuse of rural heritage and understanding the relationship between farm building and its land context.
The aim is to train professional agronomists, within the competences set by Italian law (DPR 5 June 2001 n. 238 and by Law 10 February 1992 n. 152). As a graduate they will be able to work globally in the private and public sectors as project managers, consultants and researchers.
