The course aims at introducing students to the main pharmacological and toxicological methodologies used to test drugs and biologicals in the cardiometabolic field.

-Regulation and guidelines for the use animal models in experimental research.
-Regulation and guidelines for clinical and genetic studies.
-Physiopathology of cardiovascular and immunometabolic diseases.
-Animal models for the study of obesity and metabolic diseases.
-Animal models for the study of atherosclerosis.
-Platelet aggregation and models for the study of arterial thrombosis.
-Experimental approaches for the study of endothelial function and angiogenesis.
-Immune diseases.
-Experimental approaches for the study of leukocytes subsets in humans and animal models.
-Investigation of oxidative stress in the heart.
-Imaging procedures in vascular biology.
-Imaging procedures in metabolic disorders.

-From gene identification to target therapies: the example of humanized monoclonal antibodies
-Tests for mutagenesis

Prerequisites and examination procedures: Good knowledge of anatomy, cell biology, biochemistry
and general pharmacology are required. Also a good understanding of English. The course frequency
is strongly recommended. Ad interim tests will be organized during the course.
The final test examination is written and focuses on the topics discussed in the course.
