Il corso si propone fornire le necessarie ed indispensabili nozioni di epidemiologia molecolare sia per quanto riguarda gli aspetti legati all'evoluzione molecolare e alla filogenesi. Tali conoscenze sono indispensabili per lo studente per utilizzare al meglio le diverse tecniche e metodologie molecolari. Il corso si propone inoltre di completare le conoscenze acquisite durante il corso di laurea triennale nel settore delle patologie diffusive.

Course syllabus
The course has the aim to supply the basic and fundamental information on molecular epidemiology including the specific aspects concerning filogenesis and molecular evolution. Student knowledge on mlecular epidemiology are needed to apply in an efficient way molecular methods. The course has also the aim to complete the information supplied in the previous three-year degree course in the area of infectious diseases.

Lectures will cover the following topics:
1.introduction to molecular epidemiology
2.Principles and practice of taxonomy methods and pathogen classification by molecular methods
3.Statistical methods in molecular evolution
4.Building filogenetic threes
5. Principles and practice of experimental design and of epidemiological studies for both infectious and zoonotic diseases
6. Principles and practice for the epidemiological analysis of data obtained from experiments and from field studies on both infectious and zoonotic diseases
