Learning objectives
The objective of the course is for students to acquire basic concepts of organic chemistry through appreciation of functional groups and some organic transformations of interest to natural sciences. Emphasis on the importance of organic compounds in health, environment, society and art will be highlighted.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will acquire basic concepts of electronic structure and be able to apply them to solve problems from various areas of organic chemistry, including stereochemistry, reactivity patterns and synthesis. They will also learn essential knowledge on pigments and organic dyes and colours, and on their use in the artistic field.
