Learning objectives
The course aims at providing the main tools to analyze the Italianpolitical system and its functioning with particular reference to policymakingprocesses. After an introduction to Political Science, the first module focuseson the various components of the Italian political system in comparativeperspective: institutional architecture, party system, political culture, electoraland competition dynamics. The second module then applies the analytical toolsprovided in the first part in order to study developments in a single policyfield: Italian pension policy in the period 1945-2015. The third module illustratesthe main features of the Italian administrative system, at the central (ministries),sub-national and local levels (regions, municipalities), as well as withrespect to decentralization (and re-centralization) processes occurred in thelast four decades.
