Il corso si propone di fornire allo studente un approccio multidisciplinare alla patogenesi, alla diagnostica ed alla clinica delle più importanti neoplasie del cane e del gatto. Il corso, di carattere prevalentemente pratico, è strutturato in modo che lo studente possa aver modo di partecipare attivamente alle attività cliniche e di laboratorio delle diverse strutture coinvolte.

Modulo: Diagnostica oncologica per immagini
Course syllabus
Aim of the course: to provide the basic skills for the interpretation of radio-tomographic images in the neoplastic diseases of dogs and cats. Employment of nuclear medicine in the diagnosis of sentinel lymph node and of the thyroid gland diseases completes the course. The student is involved in patient management, study planning and interpretation of images under the direct supervision of the teacher. All the activities will occur in the Lodi Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

The course includes 16 hours of practical activities, based on the description of clinical cases related to the Veterinary Radiology Unit of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. For completing the student's training, the material can be supplemented with images of particular interest from the Radiology archive.

Modulo: Diagnostica immunoistochimica in oncologia
Course syllabus
In the course will be described and discussed the immunohistochemical methods and the most important diagnostic and prognostic markers used in veterinary oncology. Histologic and immunohistochemically stained slides of the most frequent and important animal tumors will be observed with a multi-head discussion microscope. The students, supervised by the professor, shall perform an immunohistochemical test to characterize neoplastic samples with some of the most frequently used diagnostic markers.
Description of immunohistochemical methods and of the main diagnostic and prognostic markers used in veterinary oncology (cytoskeletal antigens, MIB1, p53, mdm2, neu, EGFr): seminars (4-6 hours)
Observation and discussion histologic and immunohistochemical slides related to some domestic animal tumors (papillomas, undifferentiated carcinoma and sarcomas, melanomas, breast cancer) (6-8 hours)
Immunophenotypic immunofenotyping test, carried out using the most common diagnostic tumor markers and performed in the lab by students under the supervision of the teacher (4 hours)
