Transgression in the Midlle Ages and the Early Modern Period. Literary and Historical Explorations.
seminar, transgression will be defined as a process that implies the crossing of many boundaries: literary, aesthetic, social, moral, and confessional. Our readings of individual case studies will consider a broad range of sources - poems, novels, religious texts, devotional images, historical records - and will explore the ways in which these texts contribute to the construction of subjectivity in Western and Central-Eastern Europe in the period between fourtheenth and eighteenth centuries. Students will be introduced to various methodological issues, paying close attention to that of the proper use of sources.
