Learning objectives
L'obiettivo del corso è di offrire allo studente le conoscenze necessarie e sufficienti ad affrontare e realizzare applicazioni audio digitale (incluse le applicazioni vocali e Internet) con un'ottica sistemistica, avvalendosi sia delle conoscenze informatiche, sia delle conoscenze matematiche e fisiche di base. Lo studio delle architetture di calcolo orientate all'elaborazione numerica del segnale in banda audio, integra le conoscenze sistemistiche che lo studente deve avere alla fine del corso.

1. Introduction
What is multimedia, history, the digital audio component, tools for audio multimedia.
2. Fundamentals of analogic audio
Sound and its nature (speech, music, noise, natural and artificial sounds), measurement of sound features, pure and complex tones, decibel, power and intensity, pitch (frequency)
3. Fundamentals of digital audio
Signal conditioning, analog to digital (AD) and digital-to-analog (DA) conversion, sampling, filtering (anti-aliasing/smoothing), bit-depht (linear and non-linear), signal-to-quantization noise ratio (SQNR), audio quality, data rate.
4. Audio analysis, synthesis and modification.
Fourier frequency analysis (FFT), linear predictive analysis, sound synthesis (additive, subtractive, FM, LPC), filtering (conditioning, equalizing)
5. Audio coding
Linear and nonlinear Pulse code modulation (PCM), differential pulse code modulation (DPCM),uniform and adaptive delta modulation (DM), adaptive differential pulse code modulation (ADPCM)
6. Audio compression
Lossless audio compression G.726 ADPCM, lossy audio compression (lossy) G.723
7. MPEG coding
