Learning objectives
Starting from the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, students will be expected to consolidate their receptive and productive skills in German, improve their translation skills, and further develop their capacity for metalinguistic reflection, also from a contrastive perspective. In particular, systematic treatment will be given, from both a theoretical and applied point of view, to lexical knowledge and discursive skills, concerning specialist language as well. The regular courses will be supplemented by language workshops taught by native-speakers.
Students will acquire the ability to recognize the cognitive mechanisms (in particular, metaphor and metonymy) in German lexis (also from a contrastive point of view), analyze the various types of texts, and translate non-specialist texts of syntactic and lexical complexity from and into German in accordance with the required C1 level of language competency. The knowledge gained thereby will aid students in their written and spoken German as well as in translation and mediation activities.
