Learning objectives
The course aims at providing an introduction to the main themes of modern macroeconomics, and at presenting the basic tools to analyze and interpret the most relevant and recent macroeconomic phenomena (such as the financial crash of 2008, and the problems related to the presence of low growth and high inflation/ unemployment). In more detail, the following issues will be analyzed and critically discussed during the course:

- The composition and the determinants of aggregate GDP in the short-/medium-/long-run;
- The relation between demand and supply of money;
- The basic IS/LM model in closed- and open-economy;
- The role played by Governments and the Central Bank in macroeconomic outcomes;
- The determinants of the exchange rate (both in nominal and real terms);
- The basic functionaning of the labor-market, and the analysis of the main causes and consequences of unemployment;
- The causes and consequences of inflation;
- The Phillips' Curve and the Okun's Law;
- The main sources of long-term growth in real per-capita income.
