Il corso di laurea in Editoria, culture della comunicazione e della moda ha come finalità:

a) formare capacità professionali che garantiscano una visione completa delle attività produttive del sistema editoriale e delle sue generali problematiche, dalla produzione al consumo, con riferimento specifico all'editoria libraria, offrendo un ventaglio di approfondimenti riconducibili ai diversi territori della cultura editoriale, intesa come studio della trasmissione dei testi e studio delle tecniche necessarie per la pubblicazione di testi a stampa o in digitale.
b) fornire competenze linguistiche, filosofico-estetiche, storiche, logiche, retoriche, con attenzione ai principi dell'Information and Communication Technology (ICT), nonché le conoscenze teorico-metodologiche utili per pervenire ad analisi approfondite dei sistemi comunicativi dei linguaggi mediologici e settoriali, per produrre testi nell'ambito di tali linguaggi, per progettare modelli comunicativi da utilizzare nei campi della pubblicità, mass media e comunicazione di impresa (anche con il supporto delle strutture telecomunicative del Centro di servizio per le tecnologie e la didattica universitaria multimediale e a distanza (CTU) dell'Università degli studi di Milano);
c) fornire competenze miranti alla formazione di professionisti capaci di operare nel campo della moda, dotati di una solida preparazione umanistica e interdisciplinare, in grado di rispondere alla domanda di nuove figure professionali emergenti in un campo ormai consolidato, interessato non solo ai risvolti strettamente commerciali ma alle ricadute in termini di cultura e identità del settore moda italiano, inteso come patrimonio culturale da valorizzare (con comunicazione specializzata, archivi, musei, mostre tradizionali e digitali, siti web, ecc.)
Il livello di conoscenze e competenze raggiunto permetterà ai laureati in Editoria, culture della comunicazione e della moda di esercitare un'attività, con funzioni anche di responsabilità, nei vari comparti delle imprese editoriali e più in generale in qualunque iniziativa pubblica e privata che preveda un'attività editoriale come specialisti in discipline linguistiche letterarie e documentali.

L'elevata formazione culturale nell'ambito della storia del libro, dell'editoria, delle edizioni moderne e contemporanee, permetterà l'inserimento di chi possiede la laurea in Editoria, culture della comunicazione e della moda negli uffici che si dedicano all'organizzazione di attività culturali nei diversi ambiti della pubblica amministrazione statale, regionale, comunale, e di assumere ruoli di responsabilità negli archivi editoriali, nelle biblioteche e nei centri di studio pubblici e privati o di dedicarsi a un'attività autonoma come imprenditori e amministratori o con funzioni dirigenziali, soprattutto in imprese editoriali. Gli sbocchi professionali previsti riguardano anche il campo della comunicazione e della diffusione della conoscenza in diversi ambiti, dei mass media e della pubblicità, con elevata padronanza delle nuove tecnologie. Oltre al campo della gestione dell'immagine nell'ambito di musei e archivi, all'organizzazione e cura di eventi comunicativi, il profilo professionale dei laureati nella classe consentirà l'ideazione e organizzazione di manifestazioni culturali diverse e multidisciplinari, nelle quali lo sviluppo di modelli comunicativi visuali e multimediali trovi applicazione ideale; nonché l'impiego nei settori della pubblicità e mass media (anche come dirigenti del dipartimento pubblicità e pubbliche relazioni), oltre a funzioni dirigenziali in organizzazioni nazionali o sovranazionali. I laureati potranno infine acquisire un profilo di alta specializzazione nel settore della moda, unico nel panorama attualmente esistente di stampo umanistico, che consentirà l'ingresso nelle imprese operanti a più livelli nelle filiere della moda, in Italia e all'estero.

Le competenze culturali e professionalizzanti acquisite consentiranno inoltre impieghi dirigenziali presso giornali e riviste di moda, agenzie specializzate, uffici di pubbliche relazioni, archivi istituzionali, enti culturali pubblici e privati legati al mondo della moda, e prepareranno imprenditori e dirigenti nelle aziende di moda commerciai e manifatturiere.
