Qualitative and comparative methods (Module 1)
The course aims to familiarize students with the "disciplined" qualitative research methods and design. Starting from the problem of ecological fallacy as a limit to the applicability of quantitative results to explain single cases, the module will develop through the contributions of Eckstein, Van Evera, George and Bennett, Bennett and Checkel, and Fairfield in the "within case" analysis of process tracing up to its Bayesian formalization.
The course is compulsory for all students of the NASP PhD programs in Political Studies, Economic Sociology and Labour Studies, and Sociology and Methodology of Social Research. Maximum number of participants: 20.
