Studying capitalism and its institutions
The course aims a) to provide an overview of the rich sociological and political science literature on capitalist development and the role of institutions (focus on "capitalism and its institutions"), b) to understand why different scholars chose to frame their contributions to the literature on capitalism in a specific way as opposed to other possibilities or to the choices made by other authors (focus on "studying" and "choices"), and c) to discuss whether the various choices made were the most appropriate ones given the aim of the contribution and the existing opportunities and constraints, what have been the pros and cons, whether and how it could have been decided differently and with what likely results (focus on "outcomes").
Mandatory for students of PhD program in Economic Sociology and Labour Studies.
