Organizational outcomes are the results of the behaviour of many people who, interacting with each other within organizational settings, face problems, make decisions, build knowledge, and try to make sense at their everyday life at work. The course introduces students to theoretical and methodological frameworks to understand the impact that personal factors, group dynamics and organizational characteristics have on human behaviour at work. The program primarily focuses on the contributions of a psychological perspective applied to organizational problems.
At the end of this course students should be able to:
- Analyse systematically an organizational behaviour considering three levels of analysis: individuals, groups, and organizational environment;
- Recognise what work events influence employees' attitudes, emotions and moods and how they impact on job performance;
- Explore how workers perceive and interpret job demands and reward systems, and test if they are effectiveness to activate motivational processes;
- Investigate if job design or other dimensions of organizational environment (e.g. structure, processes, culture or subcultures) are able to promote collective job engagement or, on the contrary, could trigger burnout, absenteeism, or counterproductive work behaviours;
- Identify the quality of the interaction and communication within groups (intragroup relationships) and between groups (intergroup relationships);
- Recognize what factors influence individual and collective behaviour change in the workplace, and detect forces that affect trust and readiness to change.
