Obiettivi formativi
The course provides the students with a confidence knowledge of the main issues of Contemporary History during the XXth century. Its prime purpose is to demonstrate how World and Europe have evolved as a result of the interplay of major political, social and economic developments of the period 1914-1991. An in-depth analysis will be reserved to the period between the end of the Secon World War to the fall of the Soviet Union. The final part of the course will be focused on the Italian history of the 'First Republic'

Students are required of a basic knowledge of Contemporary History by the point of view of politics and society in the for XXth century.
Propedeuticità
Basic knowledge of the European history by the point of view of politics and society between the First World War and the fall of the Soviet Union.
Prerequisiti e modalità di esame
Students are required to know the main historical events of the XXth Century.
The exam will be oral. For attendiing students it will focus both on the books recommended and on the subjects discussed during the lectures. For not attendiing students the exam will focus on the books recommended.

Lectures, analysis of historical documents, viewing of documentaries and movies.

Programma
The course will be introduced by an overview on the principal aspects and problems in the West (Europe and Usa) in the period of the 'Cold War'. It will be followed by the analysis of the principal turning points in politics and society in the Usa and Great Britain between the end of the Second World War to the Sixties.

The second unit will be focused on the principal turning points in politics and society in France and Germany between the 'Reconstruction' in the second half of the Forties to the rise of the Fifth Republic and the end of the 'Adenauer Era' respectively.
