ERA and LERU against the cuts proposed by the European Commission26-01-2015

LERU and its partner organisations in the ERA Platform oppose the proposals of the European Commission to divert 2,7 billion euro from the Horizon 2020 budget to the European Fund for Strategic Investments.

ERA stakeholders (CESAER, EARTO, EUA, Science Europe) and LERU, the League of European Research Universities, criticizes the proposals of the European Commission about assigning 2,7 billion euro to the European Fund for Strategic Investments by diverting them from the Horizon 2020 budget.

According to their joint statement the proposal appears unjustifiable and moreover it could produce a devastating blow to something which Europe cannot afford to lose: its capacity to produce ground breaking, frontier research, which is the fountain from which innovation flows.

The analysis of the first Horizon 2020 calls - states,  on "Research Europe", Kurt Deketelaere, secretary-general of LERU  - leads LERU and its members to stress the importance of constantly focusing on some of its delicate issues, namely: simplification, financing of the entire programme, and the position of the social sciences and humanities.
