Learning objectives
Acquisition of theoretical and practical principles and applications of photoluminescence and magnetic resonances of inorganic and metallorganic materials.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of the basic phenomena in the photoluminescence and magnetic resonance spectroscopies applied to inorganic materials will be acquired at the end of the course.

Part of Photoluminescence
The first course part will cover the basic principles of photoluminescence. In the second part, details of modern instrumental design and key operational principles will be discussed. The final part will explore specific aspects and field of application of inorganic and metallorganic materials.

Part of Nuclear magnetic resonance
In the first part the properties of the most common NMR active isotopes, relevant in inorganic and organometallic chemistry, will be presented together with sensitivity enhancement techniques for the observation of low receptivity isotopes. In the second part non conventional experiments and techniques will be presented.
Prerequisites for admission
Basic NMR knowledges and electromagnetic radiation properties acquired in courses of Analytical Chemistry of the Bachelor Degree.
Teaching methods
The course will fundamentally consists in frontal lessons supported by few laboratory demonstrations aimed at deepening the practical-instrumental aspects treated in the classroom.
Teaching Resources
Slides shown during the lessons are available on the Ariel website together with all the necessary files for the in depth study of the subjects covered in class.
Any basic Photoluminescence and NMR text can be used by students as a study aid if needed.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment of the acquired knowledge for both modules will consist in an oral examination.
