Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the students the principles involved in the production of the main categories of products used for human health. The preparation techniques for cosmetic products, medical devices and medicinal products will be explored in detail, with particular reference to the various conventional and modified-release pharmaceutical forms with the aim of acquiring the knowledge necessary to understand the relationships between manufacturing technologies and the risks for operators and the environment. The main specific criticalities of the technologies for the industrial preparation of pharmaceutical forms and the various methods of reducing the risks adopted will be illustrated in detail. Moreover, the course provides the fundamentals of theory and practice of the main techniques for environmental or toxicological sampling and analysis of organic compounds. The course provides also the fundamentals of data analysis and interpretation, report writing, experimental design and methodology understanding.
Expected learning outcomes
The students are expected 1) to know the fundamentals of the analytical techniques and of the products for maintaining health disclosed into the course; 2) to possess an adequate knowledge of the fundamental pharmaceutical technologies for the purpose of mitigating the risks to the health of operators and to the environment associated with the development and production health products in the industrial field; 3) to know and to be able to retrieve technical, scientific and legislative references in the field of environmental and chemical toxicology, both in Italian and English language; 4) to be able to operate in a safe and technically correct manner in analytical laboratories, 5) to be able to apply methods for sample preparation and instrumental analysis for the identification and quantitation of toxicants and pollutants, 6) to be able to interpret analytical results, both in Italian and English language; 7) to be able to select or design an analytical method and judge the adequacy of any analytical method for an intended purpose; 8) to be able to write an analytical report and 9) to be able to communicate the technical and scientific topics disclosed into the course with an appropriate Language.
