Learning objectives
This course is aimed at teaching the main methodological tools used for the design of digital systems, with a focus on sensor systems. A special attention is dedicated to the main approaches in designing embedded systems and to the acquisition, conditioning and processing of analog and digital signals generated by sensors.
Expected learning outcomes
The student should be able to apply the studied techniques for digital design (RTL design, synthesis using VHDL). Moreover, he should: know the measuring principle of the most common sensors; be able to design the necessary signal conditioning circuits; be able to choose the correct A/D converter technology and to choose the right conversion parameters, such as sampling frequency and resolution.
