Learning objectives
The course provides an analysis of the different cultures of linguistic phenomena, starting from the processes of interpersonal everyday communication to the sociological linguistic processes. The course focuses the local and global dimensions of communication and language. The aim of the course is to develop the critical and analytical capacities of the student in intercepting and interpreting the role of interpersonal and mediated linguistic processes in communication strategies. Linguistic competences are crucial tools in everyday life and in front of current complexities in the communicative areas of social and cultural life. The course will offer the development of all the relevant competences to orient oneself in a heterogeneous field of linguistic social realities, in agreement with the general targets of the B.A. in Communication and Society.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student should have developed knowledge and understanding of the linguistic dynamics in the everyday, local and global contexts of social life; Applying knowledge and understanding, with an autonomous and critical evaluation of the characteristics of language and interpersonal and mediated communication in the different fields of social life. Autonomy of judgement, and students' communicative capabilities will be developed through class discussions on topics presented by the professor.The final exam aims to verify the expected learning outcomes in respect to the students' capacity of understanding, applying knowledge, developing a critical analysis of the theoretical perspectives on the sociology of language as presented through the course.
