The aim of this course is to provide an overview of natural hydrogen exploration activity and knowledge. The course will cover the global landscape, exploration tools, and ongoing activities related to natural hydrogen. The course offers the opportunity for those who are not familiar with the topic to gain a comprehensive knowledge before starting to frame a research program to better understand the H2 generation/migration/accumulation system. If the processes and rocks generating H2 started to be known, data and quantification of the kinetic of the reactions are still limited. The scientific questions remaining unanswered regarding the generation of this new carbon free resource will also be discussed. Case studies from Australia, Mali, Brazil, Italia, Djibouti, South America and Namibia will also be presented.
While a broad knowledge of subsurface and natural resource exploration is required, there is no need to be an expert in geochemistry or geology to attend the lectures.
