Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge underlying diseases, with particular focus on the study of etiology (causes of disease), pathogenesis (mechanisms by which causes act), and the biological bases through which diseases produce specific signs or symptoms. The topics covered will include the nature and causes of cellular damage and death, acute and chronic inflammation and repair mechanisms, physio-pathology of the immune system, neoplasms, diseases related to glucose metabolism, liver diseases, arterial hypertension, thyroid pathologies, and anemias.
Expected learning outcomes
To understand pathological mechanisms related cell injury and death, adaptive cellular changes, apoptosis and necrosis, inflammation, healing and repair, immune system, and neoplasia.

To discriminate etiology and pathological mechanisms related to plant extracts.

Use the terminology for the field of pathology correctly and contextually.

To acquire the ability to relate these essential basic pathological processes to the pathogenesis of common and important diseases, e.g. neoplasia and inflammation
