Obiettivi formativi
The course unit aims to introduce the students to the monitoring of crustal deformation and of deep mass rearrangement through a variety of geodetic techniques, like Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) and Next Generation Gravity Mission (NGGM). The physical interpretation of these geodetic observations will be based on semi-analytical (self-gravitating compressible viscoelastic) Earth models, when the global spatial scale is required, or on numerical (visco-elasto-plastic) models of the lithosphere/asthenosphere system.
Risultati apprendimento attesi
Capability to analyses geodetic data time series and to discern the signatures of geophysical processes. Capability to supplement the analysis geodetic data time series with modelling of solid Earth processes. Capability to define inverse problems for estimating the relevant model parameters of solid Earth processes, such as fault slips and locking and the rheology of the Earth.
Basic programming skills in Python.
