Interactive and flexible learning
La Statale Open online degree programmes are available all-year-long with no time restraints. Modules are taught by the same lecturers in charge of the corresponding in-person courses, to ensure top-notch academic quality and reliability, as well as full integration with our excellent teaching and research offer.
Each programme consists of cluster courses made up of synchronous, asynchronous and interactive activities, ensuring a flexible learning experience, easily adaptable to different lifestyles. This educational model is inspired by the Open University's Learning Design approach, which fosters interaction and relation-building also in remote-learning environments.
Flexible, multimedia, interactive and accessible learning, when and where you want
La Statale Open allows you to play an active role in your educational journey, thanks to its interactive and asynchronous learning model. Asynchronous activities are complemented by live sessions, which are also recorded, so you can watch them when and where you want.
Our online Bachelor's degrees require students to earn 180 ECTS credits over three years, through completion of cluster courses structured into multiple modules. This means that you will have to come to Milan only a few times per year to sit your exams (for example, only 3 times during your first year).
Each cluster course culminates in an exam, is worth a certain number of ECTS credits (usually 18 to 30) and consists of different modules.
Each module entails a workload of around 40 hours divided into lecture-based and interactive learning, including synchronous sessions, pre-recorded videos, exercises, participation in forums and autonomous study.
This learning mode include:
- asynchronous lectures, i.e. pre-recorded video-lectures divided into smaller units (15-20 minutes each), enriched by presentations, downloadable materials and reading lists
- synchronous lectures, i.e. online live sessions that mirror in-person classes, allowing you to ask questions and engage with the lecturer and other students. All synchronous lectures are recorded and immediately made available on our platform, so you can also watch them later.
Interactive learning includes a wide range of e-tivities, such as:
- web lab
- subject-specific forums
- assignments, quizzes, workshops, wikis, glossaries
- self-assessment tests
- interim tests
This learning mode is the core of the educational approach informing our online degree programmes, and ensures you an active, multimedia and student-centred learning experience.
In addition to primarily interactive online activities, our online degrees also require autonomous study supported by the digital resources available on the Learning Management System platform.
On-campus exams
All end-of-course exams must be sat on campus. To facilitate working, care-giving and mobility-impaired students, exams are usually scheduled on Fridays or Saturdays every two months, for a total of 6 exam dates per year for each course.
On-campus graduation sessions
For each programme, there will be four graduation dates per year, scheduled across three sessions:
- 1st session: May – July
- 2nd session: September – December
- 3rd session: February – April
To be allowed to graduate in a certain session, you will have to complete all your exams before the set deadline.
Our online courses are delivered via Moodle, a Learning Management System that offers an optimised learning experience and maximum accessibility to digital educational resources. From virtual classrooms to interactive exercises, from computer-marked tests to simulations integrating theory and practice, studying online at La Statale Open means learning through a dynamic and active interaction with lecturers, tutors and other students, within a supportive environment accompanying you from enrolment to graduation.
