Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)

Blended Intensive Programmes, also known as BIPs, combine a short in-person mobility (5 to 30 days) with a period of online synchronous learning.

Thanks to this flexible education model, they facilitate:

  • the mobility of students and staff
  • the development of innovative learning and teaching methods
  • the acquisition of interdisciplinary transferable skills.

Each BIP is designed and implemented jointly by at least three universities located in three different EU Member States and/or third countries associated with the Erasmus+ Programme. In-person activities can take place at any of the participating organisations.

Students who take part in a BIP are awarded a minimum of 3 ECTS credits. They also receive an Erasmus+ grant, but only for the in-person mobility period.

For information, write a message via InformaStudenti (International > Erasmus+ BIP) or book an appointment.

Who can participate

BIPs are geared towards all students in their first, second or third cycle of higher education (Bachelor's, Master's and PhD). Participation requirements vary from one BIP to another, based on the agreements signed between partner universities.

How and when to apply

All current BIPs offered by the University of Milan are listed on the International opportunities webpage. For each BIP you will find a corresponding call for applications, including a link to the application platform and detailed instructions on the documents to be submitted.

As a general rule, calls for applications are published:

  • by the end of October, for BIPs starting between December and March
  • by the end of February, for BIPs starting between April and July
  • by the end of June, for BIPs starting between September and November.

At the end of the application period, the International Mobility Office will publish the list of selected candidates on the same webpage as the call for applications.

Documents and procedures

Before the start of the BIP you must:

  • sign and submit the Mobility Agreement
  • provide your bank details for payment of the Erasmus+ grant via the dedicated online form (please note that you will receive the grant only for the actual time spent at the host organisation)
  • submit the Learning Agreement filled out and signed by all parties.

The International Mobility and Promotion Office will send you detailed instructions on how to complete all the above-mentioned steps.

During the period of in-person activities, ask your responsible person to fill out and sign your Certificate of Stay.

You can use the Certificate of Stay provided by the University of Milan or any other template issued by the host organisation, as long as it specifies the start and end dates of both the physical and the virtual components of the mobility.

Within 10 days of the end of the BIP you will have to submit the following documents via InformaStudenti:

  • Certificate of Stay signed by the BIP responsible person at the host organisation
  • Learning Agreement filled out and signed by all parties
  • Transcript of Records (ToR) or other certificate issued by the host organisation and stating the activities you completed with them, plus the corresponding number of credits.

To have the credits included in your academic records, you will also have to send all the documents listed above to the Erasmus+ helpdesk/contact person for your disciplinary area.
