Advanced labour economics

Obiettivi formativi
The course aims at examining some specific issues in labour economics from the theoretical and the empirical viewpoint. Students who attend the course will be able to:
- move beyond the standard static model of demand and supply of labour following a flow approach to the labour market
- obtain testable predictions from flow models of the labour market, using the notion of present value of alternative states
- assess the role played by labour market institutions (unemployment subsidy, tax wedge, employment protection legislation) in modifying individual behaviours
- evaluate the role of public policies (employment incentives, active labour market policies, retirement policies) in reducing unemployment and improving labour market participation.

Prerequisiti
Students are expected to have knowledge of basic microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as having attended a course in labour economics. Student will be required to actively participate in the discussion and evaluation of many of the policy propositions encountered during the course. Students are required to take a written exam.
